Fact Check: Punjab Bans TikTokers Entry in Public Parks

Earlier it was reported that Punjab has banned TikTokers from entering public parks following the incident near Minar-e-Pakistan involving TikToker Ayesha Akram, who was harassed by over 400 men at Lahore’s Greater Iqbal Park.

It was being reported that Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) in Punjab had banned TikTokers from entering public parks without permission to avoid such incidents in the future. It bears mentioning that INCPak also reported on the ban citing ARY News as the source.

However, the notification states something entirely different and TikTokers have not been banned in public parks rather filming in such public places will require permission from concerned authority.

“We have planned to review the policy about usage of such places by YouTubers and TikTokers. They will be taking permission and sharing the content of the video prior to any shoot from now onwards.” said the notification.

Furthermore, Azhar Mashwani, the Focal Person of Digital Media to CM Punjab Usman Buzdar, has clarified the matter. He said on Twitter that the news regarding ban on TikTokers in public parks is fake and “no such decision taken so far by Govt.”

He added that TikTok is currently banned in Pakistan.
