Sialkot Incident: 50 Arrested as Mob Lynches Sri Lankan National

SIALKOT INCIDENT: The authorities have arrested at least fifty people in connection to the killing of the Sri Lankan national in Sialkot over alleged blasphemy allegations. The incident has created an uproar on social media and videos show the mob standing by the burned body of the Sri Lankan national while chanting slogans.

The police have formed ten teams to identify and arrest the people responsible in the lynching of the Sri Lankan national. Earlier, the Chief Minister of Punjab had ordered a detailed report into the incident and directed IG Police to thoroughly investigate the matter.

The Sri Lankan national was working as a senior manager at a private factory located at Wazirabad Road in Sialkot, which manufactured sports products for export. The police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) under sections 431, 427, 149, 147, 297, 201, 302, and 7ATA at the Ugoki Police Station against unidentified people while launching an investigation into the matter.

According to the details, there have been 10 teams constituted under the DPO and they are carrying out raids to arrest the accused responsible for the killing of the Sri Lankan national by identifying them from the viral videos of the Sialkot Incident being shared on social media.

Prime Minister Imran Khan Condemns Sialkot Incident

Prime Minister Imran Khan has condemned the attack on the Sri Lankan national calling it a “shameful day for Pakistan.” “The heinous attack on a factory in Sialkot by a mob and the burning alive of a Sri Lankan manager is a shameful day for Pakistan.” he said on Twitter, adding that arrests are being made in connection to the incident.

The video of the Sialkot Incident has gone viral on social media, showing the burning of the Sri Lankan national, however, the clip is too graphic and cannot be shared in the post.
