The reduction in the power tariff will provide a relief of Rs. 22.48 billion to the consumers. Furthermore, the relief would be passed on to each category of consumers of X-WAPDA Power Distribution Companies (XWDISCOs) except for the lifeline and protected cusumers.

The new electricity tariff will be enforced from 1 December 2021 and NEPRA has forwarded the decision to the federal government for notification in the gazette.

It is pertinent to mention that NEPRA has delayed a plea from the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) for an increase in the electricity tariff by Rs. 4.33 a few days earlier.

If NEPRA decides to approve the request of CPPA, the consumers will again bear an additional burden of Rs. 29 billion as a result of the rate increase.
