Samsung has been hacked by the same group that breached Nvidia and stole a bunch of the company’s internal data. According to the details, the data stolen by the group that hacked Samsung includes source code for Samsung Galaxy smartphones, but the personal data of customers and employees was not affected by the breach.
On Monday, Samsung confirmed the hack in a statement issued to Bloomberg. “According to our initial analysis, the breach involves some source code relating to the operation of Galaxy devices, but does not include the personal information of our consumers or employees. Currently, we do not anticipate any impact to our business or customers,” said the South Korean tech giant.
Meanwhile, the hackers have claimed they were able to gain access to 200GB of compressed data from Samsung servers, including confidential documentation, code, and other proprietary information. According to Lapsus$, the hacker group, they have hands on Samsung’s Knox authentication code, biometric unlock algorithms, bootloader code for all Samsung devices, trusted Applet source code, code behind online services and Samsung accounts.
It is pertinent to mention that Lapsus$ also claimed responsibility for hacking Nvidia and threatening to leak the company’s data unless it open sourced its graphics drivers and disabled the limits on cryptocurrency mining on certain GPUs.
Samsung has not revealed whether the hacking group has made any demands, before publishing the data online. However, the company confirmed that data breached does not include any personal information of consumers or employees. “We have implemented measures to prevent further such incidents and will continue to serve our customers without disruption,” the company told Bloomberg.
