National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved another hike in the power tariff across the country. According to the details, the increase in the electricity price has been implemented for consumers of different distribution companies (DISCOs) and K-Electric.
The regulator has informed that power tariff has been increased by Rs. 2.86 per unit in terms of Fuel Charges Adjustments (FCA) for the month of March 2022, which will be charged in the electricity bills for May 2022. The hike in the electricity price will put a burden of Rs. 29 billion on the consumers of these DISCOs.
It is pertinent to mention that the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CCPA) had requested the regulator to increase electricity prices by Rs. 3.16 per unit. The hike in the power tariff will be applicable to all consumers except lifeline customers.
Meanwhile, the National Electric Power Regulator (NEPRA) has also announced an increase in the power tariff for K-Electric consumers by Rs. 1.38 per unit in terms of Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA) for the month of February 2022, which will reflect in the electricity bills for May 2022.
K-Electric had originally sough an increase of Rs. 3.45 per unit for the metropolitan. The recent hike in the power tariff will put a financial burden worth Rs. 1.58 billion on the K-Electric consumers. However, the increase in the electricity tariff does not apply to lifeline customers of the power distributer.
