iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will likely get an always-on lockscreen display with the latest iOS 16, reported 9to5Mac. According to the publication, the upcoming feature is hinted at in the code of iOS16, which the company released recently.
9to5Mac states that there are three frameworks related to the backlight management of the iPhone’s display and these are used by different components of iOS, including the Lock Screen. Furthermore, the report suggests that there have been multiple references to an always-on display within the Springboard, which manages the Lock Screen and Home Screen of the iPhone.
The report adds that there have been hidden flags within the iOS 16 that can be used by Apple engineers to enable the always-on capability in the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Moreover, the engineers can also turn on this feature even for unsupported devices, which means that Apple engineers can test the functionality on the iPhone 3 Pro before bringing it to the upcoming iPhone 14 series.
It is pertinent to mention that developer preview of the iOS 16 is available to the Apple Developer Program members at developer.apple.com starting today, and a public beta will be available to iOS users next month at beta.apple.com. Furthermore, new software features will be available this fall as a free upgrade for iPhone 8 and later.
