Govt Imposes Emergency In Swat District of KP

The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has declared emergency in Swat District due to the devastation caused by extreme flooding in the area reached out of control following torrential rains.

Meanwhile, the rescue operations are on-going but provincial authorities are facing difficulties to reach families from hill stations of Swat, Dir, and Chitral.

In a notification, the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) said that state of emergency will be in effect until August 30 to carry out relief efforts in flood-affected areas of Swat.

Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mahmood Khan, has directed the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) to expedite relief activities in the area besides timely provision of food and other items to the affectees.

Furthermore, a number of hotels and restaurants on Mingora Bypass Swat have been swept away and submerged in water, while the road has been closed for traffic due to inundation.

Meanwhile, the public and private schools in Nowshera have been closed for two days due to flooding in the area.

Flood Advisory

In a flood advisory issued on Friday, KP’s Provincial Emergency Operations Centre said that water flows in River Swat at Khawazakhela point and its tributaries had reached a high and very high flood levels, which may result in dangerous situation for communities in the area.

Furthermore, the concerned authorities have been instructed to immediately identify vulnerable points and communities at risk to devise mitigation and safety measures

Meanwhile, the schools and colleges of Sindh have also been closed due to devastation caused by floods in some parts of the province following the abnormally high levels of rain in the region.
