New Grading System to Be Introduced For Matric & Intermediate

A new 10-point grading system is likely to be introduced at the matric and intermediate level across the country, under which the passing marks will be increased from 33% to 40%, while the grade of failure (F) will be abolished and replaced by the grade U (unsatisfactory).

Based on the new system, students getting 96% to 100% marks will get an A-plus (A+), while students with marks from 91% to 95% will get an A-minus (A-). Meanwhile, those students scoring 86% to 90% marks will be awarded grade A. Similarly, a B-plus (B+) grade will handed to students with marks anywhere from 81% to 85% and grade B will be given to those with scoring 76% to 80% marks.

The new grading system will be implemented after approval from the All Education Board Heads’ meeting (IBCC). Furthermore, the students of matric and intermediate will be considered giving a university-style Grading Point Average (GPA) instead of marks.

Moreover, the meeting will also decide holding matric and intermediate exams during April and May with results being announced by August, which is similar to the system being followed by O and A Levels.
