Iconic Actor/Director Zia Mohyeddin passed away in Karachi

The Iconic veteran actor, director, and voice artist Zia Mohyeddin passed away on Monday at 91 in a private hospital in Karachi.

Iconic Actor/Director Zia Mohyeddin passed away in Karachi

Zia Mohyeddin was the founding head of the National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA) he was earlier admitted in an Intensive care unit (ICU) of a private hospital in Karachi.

Zia Mohyeddin was a Pakistani actor, director, and broadcaster who was widely regarded as one of the most prominent and influential figures in Pakistani theatre and television. Born in Lahore, Pakistan in 1931, Mohyeddin began his career in the mid-1950s as an actor and quickly established himself as a leading performer in Pakistani and Indian films, as well as in theatrical productions. He has since gone on to become one of the most recognizable voices in Pakistan, renowned for his distinctive baritone and his ability to bring a wide range of characters to life on stage and screen. Throughout his long and illustrious career, Mohyeddin has received numerous accolades and awards for his contributions to the arts.

Zia Mohyeddin was awarded the Hilal-Imtiaz Award in 2012 for his contributions to the arts.

Mohyeddin was the first Pakistani to ever work in Hollywood and British Cinema also appeared on Pakistani cinema and television throughout his career.

Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif expressed grief and extended his condolences to Mohyeddin’s family.

The PM said that Mohyeddin’s art was one of its kind and his unique style was admired not just in Pakistan but across the world, as per Radio Pakistan.
