The initiative has been launched to facilitate overseas Pakistani and foreign nationals visiting Pakistan. It will allow them to temporarily register their mobile phones for up to 120 days from the date of their arrival without any need to pay taxes or duties on the device.

Users can apply for the temporary registration through PTA’s website. Furthermore, visitors coming to Pakistan can register their mobile phones with PTA during each individual visit to work with local networks for up to 120 days.

PTA’s Temporary Mobile Registration System has been devised after consultation with Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT), Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that the government is committed to provide the best connectivity facilities to visitors to ensure they stay connected during their stay in Pakistan. The Federal Minister for IT and Telecom, Syed Aminul Haque, who was present at the occasion said, “We are dedicatedly working to provide smooth ICT services across Pakistan and pledge to ensure and extend connectivity with ease and comfort to all those overseas Pakistanis and foreign nationals who are visiting Pakistan.”

Chairman PTA, Major General (R) Hafeez ur Rehman, thanked all stakeholders, including Ministry of IT and Telecom, FBR, and FIA, for all their support. He added that PTA has also introduced a number of consumer-centric initiatives and regulatory measures to ensure provision of high-quality ICT services across the country.
