HyperOS is still based on the Android Open Source Project but it will be merged with Vela, Xiaomi’s own platform for Internet of Things (IoT).

Sharing details of the new operating system, Xiaomi CEO said that HyperOS will put “people in the center of an ecosystem”, allowing them to connect with other people, cars, and homes.

According to the details, the preparations for Xiaomi’s HyperOS started in 2014 when the world of IoT started emerging and the company took its first steps in 2017 and began developing a new ecosystem for devices and appliances.

He confirmed that future Xiaomi phones will launch with the new HyperOS, while older flagship phones and premium devices will receive an OTA update. However, the company isn’t known to have a great track record for upgrading older phones.
