Caretaker CM Punjab Lays Foundation Stone for Dadocha Dam in Rawalpindi

On Friday, the Caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi, marked a significant milestone by laying the foundation stone for the Dadocha Dam in Rawalpindi. During the visit, he thoroughly inspected the project site and expressed satisfaction that after a 13-year hiatus, construction work on the dam had finally commenced.

Chief Minister Naqvi highlighted the critical water scarcity faced by Rawalpindi city, particularly in the summer when the water shortfall reaches up to 60 MGD. To urgently address this issue, emergency work on the Dodacha Dam has been initiated. The CM shared that the project, with an estimated cost of 14 billion, is poised to contribute significantly to resolving the water shortage problem. Upon completion, the dam is expected to provide Rawalpindi city with 35 million gallons of clean drinking water daily.

Appreciating the efforts of the Chief Secretary Punjab and Commissioner Rawalpindi Division, Chief Minister Naqvi emphasized the long-awaited relief that the Dadocha Dam would bring to citizens grappling with persistent water problems. He conveyed optimism about the swift completion of the dam within a two-year timeframe, with the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) engaged in the Ring Road Rawalpindi project also ensuring the prompt execution of the dam.

Acknowledging the prolonged delay in the dam project, the CM assured that preparations were underway in Murree for the upcoming winter season. He expressed a commitment to taking solid measures to boost tourism and highlighted the initiation of a special operation against illegal housing societies.

Furthermore, Chief Minister Naqvi underscored the continuation of hospital upgrade work, emphasizing that no obstacles would be tolerated in this vital project. During a comprehensive briefing, he was informed that progress on the dam site was substantial, with 26% financial progress and 12% physical progress. Key officials, including Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman, Commissioner Rawalpindi, Regional Police Officer, Rawalpindi, and FWO representatives, were present during this significant occasion.
