Security Concerns in Islamabad: Clarifications Amidst University Closure Reports

The confusion arose after mainstream media circulated reports claiming the indefinite closure of three universities in Islamabad following a security search operation in the city’s suburbs on Sunday. Minister Solangi assured in a statement that the state is committed to ensuring the safety of students and citizens in the face of any potential danger.

In tandem, the Islamabad Territory Police (ICT) also issued a clarification, stating that no educational institution, bank, market, or private institution had been closed. The police spokesperson, addressing concerns on social media, urged the public not to spread baseless rumors, emphasizing that the situation in Islamabad remains peaceful and normal.

However, conflicting information emerged from sources within the International Islamic University (IIUI), suggesting that the university has been closed until January 26 due to security concerns. The IIUI administration had previously called on stakeholders to implement robust security measures within the campus in response to the prevailing situation in the federal capital.

IIUI Rector Prof Dr Samina Malik emphasized the university’s commitment to providing a secure and peaceful environment. She directed the security and administration teams to leave no loopholes, ensuring comprehensive measures to maintain tranquility on campus.

The increased security measures in Islamabad are linked to ongoing sit-ins outside the press club and the upcoming general elections scheduled for February 8. Law enforcement agencies are conducting a grand operation in the city and its suburban areas to bolster security and address potential threats. As the situation unfolds, authorities continue to monitor and respond to security concerns in the capital.
