UAE Authorities Ensure Fair Pricing and Consumer Protection During Ramadan

Authorities in the UAE have set rules to keep prices steady for nine important items this Ramadan, like cooking oil and bread. Shoppers are advised to be watchful, especially during Ramadan, and report any price increases without approval. Abdullah Sultan Al Fan Al Shamsi, from the Ministry of Economy, emphasized the significance of this pricing policy during a recent briefing. He stressed the need for people to keep their receipts for protection in case of any disagreements.

To assist consumers during Ramadan, the ministry has introduced measures to ensure that discounts and special offers are properly applied. They also encourage people to communicate with them, share ideas, and report any unfair practices affecting consumers. Al Shamsi urged consumers to call their toll-free number, 800-1222, to lodge complaints or provide feedback.

The ministry aims at educating the consumers about their rights and ensure that offers that can be harmful in any way are stopped. Last year, they conducted 96,000 inspections and helped to solve cases that included misleading pricing, bad product quality, and commercial fraud. Thus, the agency identified over 6,500 violations.
