SNGPL Wants Another 155% Hike in Gas Tariff

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) concluded its hearing on Monday regarding SNGPL’s request for a 155% increase in gas tariffs. The Chairman of OGRA announced that any decision regarding gas prices will be implemented starting from July 1st.

Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Ltd, responsible for supplying gas to Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces, has urged OGRA for a 155% tariff hike.

The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and the APTMA strongly oppose any further increase in gas tariffs, labeling it as unjust. They argue that Sui Northern Gas should focus on reducing its expenses, urging the regulator to reject the company’s demand to prevent consumer exploitation.

Should OGRA approve the tariff hike, it would take effect from July 1st. This means that consumers currently paying 100 rupees would see their gas bills increase to 600 rupees, while those paying 600 rupees would face a hike to 1500 rupees.

Chairman Masroor Ahmed Khan reiterated that any decision regarding gas prices will be enforced from July 1st, dismissing exaggerated speculations in the media about the extent of the price increase.
