The governments of Punjab, KP, and Islamabad have recently adjusted the prices of tandoori roti and naan, setting them at Rs 16 and Rs 20 respectively. Despite this directive, local tandoor and naan establishments have refused to adhere to the government’s pricing, opting to maintain their own rates and even threatening to close tandoors if pressured to comply.
To enforce the new pricing, district authorities have issued a notification stipulating the rates for roti and naan, standardized at Rs 16 and Rs 20 for a serving size of 120 grams. Assistant Commissioners and Price Control Magistrates have been tasked with ensuring compliance throughout Islamabad.
Responding to the directives from Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon, Assistant Commissioner Secretariat Abdullah Khan convened a meeting with the Nanbai Association to discuss the implementation of the revised prices.
Despite these initiatives, tandoor and naan vendors across Islamabad and Punjab persist in maintaining their own pricing structures, disregarding the government’s prescribed rates and threatening closure of tandoors.
