Punjab to Relaunch Laptop Scheme After 7 Years

Punjab’s Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, gave approval for a laptop scheme aimed at students during a crucial meeting focused on improving higher education. The scheme plans to provide the latest laptops to students across Punjab, restarting the initiative after seven years. The meeting discussed enhancing higher education, along with providing laptops and transport facilities for students. It also agreed to prioritize establishing new universities and colleges in underdeveloped districts.

The chief minister emphasized the government’s vision to ensure top-notch universities in every district and colleges at the tehsil level. She also praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s declaration of an “Educational Emergency,” indicating the government’s commitment to tackling education challenges. She stressed the necessity of overhauling both school and higher education sectors to meet students’ changing needs and prepare them for the future.

Maryam Nawaz reiterated the government’s plan to distribute 20,000 motorbikes to students province-wide, highlighting Punjab’s investment in developing the knowledge economy and ICT education. The meeting also noted the substantial budget allocation for higher education during the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) governments’ tenure. Moreover, statistics revealed during the briefing showcased university enrollment in Punjab, with over 650,000 students pursuing higher education.

Importantly, the number of female university students exceeded male students, with 56% women and 44% men enrolled. This highlights a significant stride towards gender equality in higher education.

  1. Yet another useless exercise just to attract votes for the future and to fool the people. Such useless exercises in the past had no significant effect on the wellbeing of the masses or the productivity of the youth. I am sure our rulers will never learn.
