In a groundbreaking move, Saudi Arabia has played host to its inaugural women’s swimsuit fashion show at the Red Sea Fashion Week, marking a significant departure from its traditionally conservative stance on attire.
The event took place on the second day of the Red Sea Fashion Week, amidst the luxurious backdrop of the St. Regis Red Sea Resort located on the country’s west coast. The show, a part of the ambitious Vision 2030 initiative spearheaded by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, showcased the creations of Moroccan designer Yasmina Qanzal.
Featuring a stunning array of one-piece swimsuits in vibrant hues of red, beige, and blue, the show symbolized a departure from the restrictive norms of the past. “We have tried to show beautiful swimsuits that represent the Arab world,” expressed the designer, encapsulating the spirit of the event.
Among the attendees was Shawq Mohammed, a prominent fashion influencer from Syria, who hailed the show as a reflection of Saudi Arabia’s endeavor to embrace global trends and expand its fashion and tourism sectors. “Why not?” questioned Shawq, emphasizing the importance of such initiatives in fostering cultural exchange and progress.
Despite the country’s conservative past, the show garnered praise from international attendees, like French influencer Raphael Samacorbi, who commended the organizers for their courage in challenging societal norms. “It’s very brave of them to do this today, so I’m very happy to be involved,” remarked Samacorbi, echoing the sentiments of many present.
