PTA: Internet Slowdown to Persist Until End of October

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued an update regarding the ongoing internet Slowdown disruption across the country.

Earlier, PTA had assured that full internet services would be restored by August 28, 2024. However, in a recent development, the authority has announced that the issues causing slow internet speeds are likely to persist till the end of October 2024.

According to PTA’s statement, the ongoing problem is primarily due to faults in two significant submarine cables, SMW4 and AAE-1.

The authority has highlighted that the restoration of SMW4 has been delayed, pushing the timeline further than initially anticipated.

PTA is actively coordinating with international teams to expedite the repair process. However, it is now evident that normal internet speeds will not resume as expected, and users should anticipate slower connectivity until the situation improves.

The delay in restoring full internet services has caused frustration among users nationwide, with many expressing concerns over the prolonged impact on daily activities and businesses.

The primary reason for the ongoing internet issues across the country is a fault in two international submarine cables (SMW4, AAE-1).

It is clarified that the SMW4 submarine cable fault is expected to be fixed by the end of October 2024. Meanwhile, the SMW4 submarine cable has been restored, which will result in an improvement in the current internet situation.

Hello! My name is Farhan Abro, and I'm based here in Islamabad. My journey in Pakistan's digital media really kicked off when I founded INCPak back in 2012. We built it from the ground up, driven by an entrepreneurial spirit, to be a trusted voice for independent journalism. But while media is a big part of who I am, I'm also shaped by a fascinating mix of other passions. I'm deeply into automotive, which gives me a technical edge, but I also find my artistic expression through landscape photography and music. And I'm always diving into the exciting world of Artificial Intelligence. Bringing all these different worlds together the technical, the creative, the journalistic, and the entrepreneurial—it really colors how I see things and approach every project. It gives me a distinct perspective that I try to bring to everything I share
