Pakistan to Witness the Last Supermoon of 2024 Tonight

Astronomy enthusiasts in Pakistan are in for a treat as the final supermoon of the year graces the night sky. Renowned astronomer Dr. Javed Iqbal has shared insights about this spectacular celestial event.

The supermoon will be visible at its peak starting at 2:28 AM PST, presenting a breathtaking view for stargazers. During this phenomenon, the Moon will appear approximately 14% larger and 30% brighter than a typical full moon, making it a visual spectacle.

Dr. Iqbal noted that the distance between Earth and the Moon during this event will be around 360,378 kilometers, significantly closer than their average orbital distance of 384,400 kilometers.

Pakistan to Witness the Last Supermoon of 2024 Tonight

This marks the second supermoon visible in Pakistan this year, with the first one occurring on August 20th. The August supermoon captivated observers across cities like Karachi, Quetta, and Lahore, drawing awe and admiration from all corners of the country.

A supermoon occurs when a full moon coincides with the Moon’s closest approach to Earth in its elliptical orbit, known as the perigee. This proximity enhances the Moon’s size and brightness, creating a striking visual display.

Stargazers in Pakistan are encouraged to seize this opportunity to witness the last supermoon of 2024. Weather permitting, the event promises to deliver a memorable experience for sky watchers. For those with access to telescopes or binoculars, the viewing could be even more remarkable, offering a closer look at the Moon’s surface details.

Whether you’re a seasoned astronomer or simply someone who appreciates nature’s wonders, tonight’s supermoon is a celestial show you won’t want to miss.

Hello! My name is Farhan Abro, and I'm based here in Islamabad. My journey in Pakistan's digital media really kicked off when I founded INCPak back in 2012. We built it from the ground up, driven by an entrepreneurial spirit, to be a trusted voice for independent journalism. But while media is a big part of who I am, I'm also shaped by a fascinating mix of other passions. I'm deeply into automotive, which gives me a technical edge, but I also find my artistic expression through landscape photography and music. And I'm always diving into the exciting world of Artificial Intelligence. Bringing all these different worlds together the technical, the creative, the journalistic, and the entrepreneurial—it really colors how I see things and approach every project. It gives me a distinct perspective that I try to bring to everything I share
