Early Thursday morning, Pakistan’s air defense system swiftly intercepted and shot down an Indian drone that violated the country’s airspace. Military sources confirmed that the drone flew at a high altitude before attempting to enter Pakistani territory near Gujranwala Cantt.
As soon as the drone crossed into Pakistani airspace, the Gujranwala Cantt defense system tracked its movement and fired two shots, successfully bringing it down. Meanwhile, local police recovered the wreckage from fields near Pir Jhanda village in District Gujrat.
Around 3:43 AM, residents of Gujranwala heard two loud explosions during the Fajr Azaan. While authorities have not officially confirmed the cause, flight paths near Sialkot were immediately diverted following the incident.

The incident comes amid heightened tensions between Pakistan and India after India’s recent Operation Sindoor inside Pakistani territory. Pakistani officials have vowed to retaliate at a time and place of their choosing, signaling further volatility in the region.
Security forces have cordoned off the area where the drone debris was found, and investigations are underway. The military has not yet released further details but reaffirmed its readiness to defend Pakistan’s sovereignty against any intrusion.
