Chief Justice Of Pakistan bans Media Talk in Court Premises

ISLAMABAD –  Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Tuesday remarked that the Supreme Court respects Parliament and the Parliament should also respect the apex court.

A three-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by CJP Justice Mian Saqib Nisar was hearing the case challenging the recently passed Election Act 2017.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chairman Raja Zafarul Haq, Interior Minister Ahsab Iqbal, Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique, party leader Pervaiz Rashid and others appeared before the court.

During the proceedings, the CJP remarked that Khawaja Saad Rafique gives passionate speeches in the gatherings.

Justice Saqib Nisar remarked that the court cannot give its response ion the gatherings or on TV channels and asked the federal minister to speak in the court and the court will reply, to which Khawaja Saad Rafique said that he will not speak in the court.

Furthering giving his remarks, the CJP said that the Supreme Court cannot pressurized, adding that the apex court will decide its jurisdiction. “Digging ditches is only going to weaken institutions and make accessibility to justice hard for posterity,” he added.

Justice Saqib Nisar observed that they will not let their institution be used for political gains. He also banned media banned media talk in court premises.

On the other hand, the PML-N chairman requested court for 15 days for the preparation of the case.

The Chief Justice while giving the government 10 days to prepare the case, issued notices to the respondents and adjourned the case until February 6.
