According to online sources, the main reason for the cancellation of the show has been the on going coronavirus pandemic and Netflix itself was hesitant in renewing the show since it required shooting at many international destinations.

Netflix’s Messiah was a show that centered around sacred religious territory according to most people and the story was based on a character named al-Masih who is known as Messiah in Arabic.

The controversy of Messiah was based on the fact that in Islam the character of al-Masih doesn’t mean Jesus Christ but rather called “Dajjal” or more commonly known in Christianity as the “Anti-Christ”.
