Pakistan welcomes Joint Statement by Human Rights Groups on Kashmir

Pakistan welcomed the statement of six International Human Rights Organization on the Indian Occupied Kashmir matter calling for an end to the atrocities over the people in the region since the special status of Kashmir was revoked last year.

The Indian Government led by the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) revoked Article 370 of the Indian Constitution that gave Kashmir its special status and soon after imposed a curfew and lockdown of the region with no contact with the outside world including no access to the internet.

The Foreign Office Spokesperson Aisha Farooqui said that the statement called “on India to immediately release all arbitrarily detained prisoners and restore full high speed internet access in Indian Occupied Jammu & Kashmir”.

In her tweet Aisha Farooqui even said:

The Joint Statement rightly underlines that measures to combat COVID-19 must respect human rights of every individual.

According to the Foreign Office Spokesperson, it was important that all political prisoners and human rights defenders be released immediately reminding and expressing concern that these people were being kept totally isolated locked away from the outside world with not even prison visits allowed.
