Friday prayer congregation held in parts of the country despite lockdown

Some of the Ulemas don’t support the lockdown of Mosques due to coronavirus lockdown and Friday prayer congregation were held in part of the country despite strict lockdown from 12am to 3pm and there were reports of hundreds gathering for prayer.

Journalist Asad Hashim shared pictures from Islamabad’s Red Mosque where hundreds gathers without observing any social distancing or precautions for Friday prayer congregation today completely going against government orders who have allowed a maximum of five people in the Mosque including the Imam.

According to some reports, the Darwesh Mosque also had around 400 people who gathered there for Friday prayer congregation ignoring all government orders regarding lockdown.

However, there were reports of some other Mosques holding Friday prayer congregation although they were observing social distancing and following precautionary measures.

However according to reports the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government has lifted the ban on congregational prayers including Taraweeh prayers in a meeting held today that was attended by religious scholars and Prime Minister Raja Farooq along with Information Technology Minister Dr Mustafa Bashir.

The final decision about congregational prayers including Taraweeh prayers and Aitakaf is going to be taken on Saturday, 18 April in a meeting that will be attended by the top religious scholars including the Minister for Religious Affairs Noor ul Haq Qadri and Mufti Taqi Usmani who does not seem to agree that Mosques should be closed.

Earlier, Mufti Muneeb ur Rehman also had the same views however, yesterday he said that he supports the government decision of the lockdown.
