Railway Minister Sheikh Rashid, ex-PM Abbasi test positive for COVID-19

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Pakistan Railways Sheikh Rashid has tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) according to the statement released by the railways ministry.

However, the Sheikh Rashid is said to be in stable condition and showing no symptoms as of yet. The railways minister has self quarantined at home for two weeks according to the ministry.

Earlier in the day, Pakistan Muslim League – N (PML-N_ Spokesperson Marrium Aurangzed also confirmed that former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has also tested positive for COVID-19 and is self isolating at home.

The former Prime Minister has been quite active the past week when he was present at the Lahore High Court to attend the bail hearing of PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif and also held a press conference along side Marrium Aurangzeb and Ahsan Iqbal.

Many politicians and public figures have so far been diagnosed with the coronavirus and Pakistan’s number of cases have surged past 100,000 and the country continues to report higher numbers each day.

The death toll from COVID-19 has topped 2,000 with Punjab leading with the most reported fatalities in the country.
