17 year old teen behind major Twitter hack taken into custody

The major Twitter hack that took place mid-July was masterminded by a 17 year old teenager from Tampa, Florida named Graham Clark. The teenager was aided by a 22 year old man from Orlando and a 19 year old British man according to the Justice Department.

Graham Clark and along with 22 year old Nima Fazeli from Orlando, Florida were taken into custody. Clark despite being 17, was charged as an adult under the Florida law with 30 counts of fraud while Fazeli was charged with aiding and abetting.

On the other hand the 19 year old British man from Bogner Regis named Mason Sheppard was charged with wire fraud and money laundering.

The three obtained more than $100,000 in the crypto scam according to the Bitcoin public ledger. In the Twitter hack, these hackers sent tweets from high profile accounts which included politicians, celebrities and businessmen.

They were able to get access into the Twitter network by using a phone spear phishing attack that targeted a small number of employees and mislead them into providing their credentials.

After gaining access to the network, the Twitter hack targeted 130 accounts according to the social media company and these hackers tweeted from 45 of these accounts offering to double bitcoin sent to a particular address.

Furthermore, they also accessed the Direct Messages of 36 of the accounts and downloaded Twitter Data of seven accounts as part of their hack.
