Muharram 2020 moon sighted, Youm-e-Ashura on August 30

KARACHI: The Chairman of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Mufti Muneeb ur Rehman announced that the Muharram ul Haram 2020 moon has been sighted today (Thursday).

This marks the start of the holy month of Muharram from August 21 according to Mufti Muneeb while Youm-e-Ashura will be observed on August 30.

The Ruet-e-Hilal Committee met today in Karachi under the chairmanship of Mufti Muneeb ur Rehman for the Muharram 2020 moon sighting while the zonal committees met in their respective districts.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department had already predicted the sighting of the Muharram ul Haram 2020 moon on Thursday (20 August). According to the statement of the Met Department, the new moon was born on crossing conjunction point at 07:42PM on August 19.

Youm-e-Ashura is observed across the world by Muslims as a day commemoration of the death of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his family and supporters at the Battle of Karbala on 10 Muharram.
