FBR proposes to slash Regulatory duty on import of smartphones

ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue has proposed to slash the regulatory duty (RD) on imported smartphones by upto 50%.

The move is aimed to “Provide relief to the common man and to support digitalisation endeavors.”

The reduction in smartphones import duty is expected to increase the import volume of mobile phones in Pakistan.

The summary which carries the signature of FBR Chairman Shabbar Zaidi says “to some extent, neutralise the other negative impact of this measure.”

Already the import regulatory taxes were reduced in the last Budget announced in May 2019.”

The Impact of Higher Regulatory Duty on Smartphones

The Significant decline in Smartphones import noticed, people are unable to buy quality smartphones as PTI Government imposed a hefty tax on Smartphones. The new summary will bring relief and make smartphone import easier.

Once FBR passes proposed summary, the import volume will increase as somewhat 50% reduced compared to the current one.
