It is pertinent to mention that the Punjab government had extended the winter school timings until January 31, 2024, on account of the severe cold wave and foggy conditions in most of the province. According to the notification issued by the provincial education department, all schools were instructed to operate from 09:30 am to 2:30 pm during weekdays and 12:30 pm on Fridays.

This year, the provincial government provided ample relief to parents and teachers through extension of winter vacations as well as revised school timings in order to protect children from the severe cold wave, especially for students up to class 1, who enjoyed an even longer winter break.

Meanwhile, there are reports that educational institutions may get another extended closure due to the upcoming General Elections 2024, which are scheduled to take place on February 8, 2024. According to the details, the closure of educational institutes would start on February 4 (Sunday) followed by Kashmir Day on February 5 and the election period from February 6 to 10.
