Pakistani actress and model Zoya Nasir has called off her engagement with travel vlogger Christian Betzmann following internet controversy over some comments he made regarding Israel-Palestine issue while mocking Pakistan as a “third world” country which relies on prayers rather than people doing something themselves.
The announcement regarding the split was made by Zoya Nasir on Instagram. “It’s with a heavy heart I’m announcing that Christian Betzmann and I are no longer engaged to be married.” she wrote in a post on the photo and video sharing platform.
“His sudden change in stance towards my culture, my country, my people and insensitivity towards my religion has lead me to take this difficult and irrevocable decision.
“There are certain religious and social boundaries that can’t be crossed no matter what, hence, the decision to part ways.” said Zoya Nasir in her post on Instagram. “Humility, Tolerance and Respect towards each other are the virtues that we must always adhere to. I look upon my Allah to provide me with the strength to deal with this worldly emotional wreck.” she added while wishing Christian Betzmann “a bright and happy future.”
“I sincerely request for space and privacy for myself and my family as we begin to navigate this emotional turmoil.” Zoya Nasir concluded in her statement calling off her engagement with Christian Betzmann.
Christian Betzmann had been under fire after expressing his opinions on the Israel-Palestine issue, which also led him to have falling out with several Pakistanis on social media.
