Thirteen drown as boat overturns at Thatta’s Keenjhar Lake

THATTA: Thirteen people have reportedly drowned as a boat overturns at Keenjhar Lake in Thatta District of Sindh. All 13 passengers belonged to the same family which hailed from Karachi Mehmoodabad area.

According to sources, 9 dead bodies were recovered including seven women women and two children who drowned in the incident at Keenjhar Lake.

Three survivors were rescued and shifted to Civil Hospital in Makli. However, they are said to be in critical condition. Rescue operations are underway to find one remaining victim.

The family was reportedly traveling to Noori Jam Tamachi located in the middle of the Keenjhar Lake when their boat overturned.

According to rescuers, no life jacket or safety equipment is provided to people while taking them for boating and lifeguards are also not available at the very busy lake that is visited by thousands on a daily basis.
