Senator Dr Sania Nishtar has tendered her resignation as the Chairperson of Benazir Income Support Program (BISP). The announcement was made by Dr Sania Nishtar on Twitter just hours after several PTI lawmakers conveyed their resignations from assemblies and boycotted the election polls to select the new Prime Minister.
“I have conveyed my resignation as Chairperson BISP. It has been a great privilege to serve the disadvantaged, whose lives I have always aspired to touch.” said Dr Sania Nishtar on Twitter. “Thank you @ImranKhanPTI for giving me the opportunity. It was an honor to serve the country under your leadership.” she added.

It is pertinent to mention that on April 5, Dr Sania Nishtar announced that she is stepping down as the Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Social Protection and Poverty Alleviation. “It has been an honor & a privilege to serve my country as Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Social Protection & Poverty Alleviation.” she said.

She added that as she steps down from the position, she prays that Pakistan’s flagship Ehsaas Program grows even stronger to serve those who need it. The Ehsaas Program includes several social welfare initiatives, which were introduced in line with former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s vision of the welfare state, including Ehsaas Kafalat Program that was a revamped version of the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP).
It is pertinent to mention that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that the government will be restoring the original name of the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) as some of the steps to undo the effects of the previous government. He added that the programme will be improved to better help the people.
