Forecast of Heavy Rains in Pakistan from 26th to 29th August 2024

A series of heavy rains is expected to affect various regions of the country from the evening of 25th August 2024 to 29th August 2024. During this period, According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department‘s forecast.

The following weather conditions are anticipated:

  • Expected Weather Conditions:
    • From 25th August to 26th August: Strong winds and heavy rainfall are likely to occur in regions of Sindh, including Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Mirpurkhas, and Hyderabad.
    • From 26th August to 27th August: Heavy to very heavy rainfall with strong winds is expected in southern Punjab, including Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, and Rahim Yar Khan.
    • From 27th August to 28th August: Strong winds and heavy rainfall are predicted in northern Punjab, including Lahore, Faisalabad, Sargodha, and Rawalpindi.
    • From 28th August to 29th August: Intermittent heavy rainfall with strong winds is anticipated in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar, Mardan, and Kohat.
  • Possible Impacts:
    • Urban Flooding: Heavy rainfall may lead to urban flooding in major cities of Sindh, southern Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
    • River Flooding: The likelihood of river flooding increases, especially in rivers and streams of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
    • Landslides: There is a significant risk of landslides in the hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu & Kashmir.
    • Travel Disruptions: Road and air travel may be affected due to heavy rains and flooding.

The general public and all relevant authorities are advised to take necessary precautions to minimize any potential damage and ensure the safety of life and property. Special attention should be paid to:

  • Ensuring drainage systems are cleared and operational to prevent urban flooding.
  • Monitoring rivers and streams for possible flooding.
  • Taking precautionary measures in landslide-prone areas.
  • Advising the public to avoid unnecessary travel during the forecasted period.
