Iran: Mohsen Fakhrizadeh top nuclear scientist assassinated

IRAN: Top ranking nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh has been assassinated in Absard, a small city located in east of Tehran, Iran.

Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif took to twitter and said:

Terrorists murdered an eminent Iranian scientist today. This cowardice—with serious indications of Israeli role—shows desperate warmongering of perpetrators Iran calls on int’l community—and especially EU—to end their shameful double standards & condemn this act of state terror.

Javed Zarif in his tweet also indicated the role of Israel in the assassination of the scientist.

Mohsen Fakhrizadeh is a well known and eminent Iranian nuclear scientist in the country. He was an expert in missile production and had also been member of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard

Armed Terrorists Attacked his Vehicle

According to Iran Defence Ministry Mohsen Fakhrizadeh was attacked in his vehicle. There was a clash between the terrorist and his body guard and  Fakhrizadeh was severely injured and taken to hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

The local media has reported the attackers opened fire on Mohsen Fakhrizadeh in his car. Earlier a car explosion in Absard town was also reported by Fars news agency. According to witnesses three to four terrorist were killed.

Iran government however has congratulated the nuclear scientist for his martyrdom.

Iran condemns Israel

Israel has been a suspect in killing Iranian nuclear scientists nearly 10 years ago. Four Iranian scientists were killed between 2010 and 2012 and Israel was accused by Iran.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had once called out in a news conference saying: “Remember that name.” But Israel has immediately declined to comment on that.

Photos and videos shared on social media showed Nissan Sidan with bullet holes and pool of blood on the road. No group has come forward to claim the responsibility of the attack.

The military adviser to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has vowed to strike the killers of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh.

military commander Hossein Dehghan tweeted “We will strike as thunder at the killers of this oppressed martyr and will make them regret their action,”
