Islamabad Blast Martyrs One Policeman & Injures Several Others

In a tragic event, a suicide blast in Islamabad I-10/4 sector martyred one policeman and injured six others, including four cops.

According to the Deputy Inspector General of Police Sohail Zafar Chatta, the police had spotted a suspicious vehicle in the area around 10:15 am with a man and woman on board, which was stopped by Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police Eagle Squad for inspection and the occupants were asked to exit the vehicle.

“The long-haired man, while being checked by the officers, went inside the vehicle for some reason and then detonated himself.” the Deputy Inspector General told media. He added that as a result, the police officer from the Eagle Squad was martyred and four others were injured in the incident.

Taking to Twitter, Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police posted details of the incident. “Head Constable Adeel Hussain was martyred in a suicide blast.” the police stated. “Due to timely action of Islamabad Capital Police, the city was saved from a major terrorist attack.” it added.

Islamabad Police added that terrorists have been targeting the police for some time to demoralize law enforcement agencies. “The terrorists wanted to detonate in a densely populated area to attack the police and public.” the Tweet read.

Furthermore, the public has been requested to stay away from the scene.

Rescue officials along with security services reached the blast site and the area was cordoned off for investigation.

Following the suicide blast, the Islamabad Police set up diversions for traffic at the service road of I-10/4 and advised citizens to use Service Road West of I-10/4 as alternative.

Moreover, the injured cops and civilians were moved to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).

According to Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, the vehicle was loaded with explosives and it was aimed at high value targets in the federal capital. He added that the vehicle had entered Islamabad through Rawalpindi on Friday morning.

Condemnations started pouring in following the suicide blast in Islamabad with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif summoning a report from relevant authorities. He also paid tribute to the martyred policeman and announced a martyr package for the family of Head Constable Adeel Hussain.

Reacting to the suicide attack in Islamabad, opposition leader, Asad Umar said that the presence of the suicide bomber shows how fast the country is heading towards destruction.
