Islamabad Traffic Plan for 14-16 October 2024 Due to SCO Meeting

The Islamabad Traffic Police have announced a traffic management plan in anticipation of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting, scheduled for 14-16 October 2024. Several major roads in Islamabad will face closures and diversions during these days to facilitate the event and ensure security.

Road Closures:

  1. Malpur to Kashmir Chowk, Serena Chowk, and Srinagar Highway
  2. Rawal Dam Chowk to Serena Chowk and Malpur
  3. Srinagar Highway toward Serena Chowk, Bhara Kahu, and Murree
  4. Islamabad Expressway/Highway, including Koral, Faizabad, Zero Point, and Faisal Avenue

Open Routes for Alternate Access:

  • Bhara Kahu, Murree toward Faizabad via Banigala Korang Road
  • Faizabad to Banigala via Rawal Dam Chowk and Korang Road
  • Srinagar Highway to Barakahu Murree using Pak-China Friendship Road, accessible from Sports Complex’s backside road
  • Sector F-5, G-5, G-6, Margalla Road via 9th Avenue toward Rawalpindi
  • Rawalpindi to Murree Road via Stadium Road to 9th Avenue
  • Service/Link Roads connected to Islamabad Expressway/Highway

Traffic Diversion Plan for SCO Conference on October 14, 15, and 16, 2024

  • Islamabad Traffic Police has implemented a comprehensive traffic diversion plan.
  • Over 1,100 traffic officers will be on duty.
  • The public is informed that various traffic diversions will be in place in Islamabad on October 14, 15, and 16, 2024, due to the conference. Alternative routes are recommended to avoid delays.

Alternative Routes:

  • For those traveling from GT Road Peshawar to Rawat: Use Taxila, Motorway, Chakri Interchange, Chak Beli Road, and Rawat.
  • For those traveling from GT Road Lahore to Peshawar: Use Rawat, Chak Beli Road, Chakri Interchange, Motorway, and Taxila.
  • For those heading to Rawalpindi from Margalla Road: Use 9th Avenue.
  • Traffic from Faisal Avenue to Zero Point will be redirected to 9th Avenue.
  • Travelers from Bhara Kahu to Rawalpindi: Use Korang Road and Lehtrar Road via Bani Gala.
  • Traffic from Rawalpindi to Islamabad: Use Saddar, Murree Road, and 9th Avenue.
  • The Expressway will be closed to all traffic between Zero Point, Faisal Avenue, and Koral Chowk.
  • Those traveling to Faizabad from Colonel Sher Khan Shaheed Road: Use Stadium Road from the 9th Avenue signal.
  • Heavy traffic from Peshawar to Lahore: Use Taxila, Motorway, Tarnol Phatak, Fateh Jang Road Interchange, and Motorway.
  • Heavy traffic from GT Road Lahore to Islamabad and Rawalpindi: Use Chak Beli Road, Chakri Interchange, and Motorway.

Note: All heavy traffic will be restricted from entering Islamabad from October 14 to 16, 2024.
