NCCIA Files FIR Over Anti-State Posts

The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has registered an FIR against individuals accused of spreading anti-state propaganda on social media during heightened tensions between Pakistan and India.

Pakistan’s National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has registered a case against five prominent journalists and analysts, including Adil Raja and Moeed Pirzada, for allegedly running a coordinated hate campaign against state institutions.

The FIR names Muhammad Umar, Nazir Butt, and Ahmad Noorani as co-accused, charging them with spreading provocative content to fuel unrest during recent Pak-India tensions.

According to investigators, the five journalists systematically shared fabricated and inflammatory material across social media platforms.

The NCCIA emphasized that their posts deliberately misled the public, created unnecessary panic, and compromised national security. Moreover, the agency confirmed that the accused repeatedly targeted key institutions, eroding public trust during sensitive geopolitical developments.

Authorities have initiated formal proceedings under relevant cybercrime laws. The case, filed at Ramana Police Station by complainant Muhammad Aslam of G-11, Islamabad, is now under active investigation.

This marks another step in the government’s crackdown on digital propaganda, particularly content perceived as threatening national stability.

The action echoes a 2023 Islamabad case involving overseas-based figures like Shaheen Sehbai and Adil Raja, who faced similar charges for allegedly inciting rebellion against defense institutions.

These recurring cases highlight Pakistan’s tightened scrutiny of online dissent, especially narratives linked to institutional criticism.

As the investigation progresses, the case raises critical questions about balancing free speech and national security. Meanwhile, the NCCIA urges social media users to verify information and avoid amplifying unverified claims that could harm public order.

Farhan Abro

Hello! My name is Farhan Abro, and I'm based here in Islamabad. My journey in Pakistan's digital media really kicked off when I founded INCPak back in 2012. We built it from the ground up, driven by an entrepreneurial spirit, to be a trusted voice for independent journalism. But while media is a big part of who I am, I'm also shaped by a fascinating mix of other passions. I'm deeply into automotive, which gives me a technical edge, but I also find my artistic expression through landscape photography and music. And I'm always diving into the exciting world of Artificial Intelligence. Bringing all these different worlds together the technical, the creative, the journalistic, and the entrepreneurial—it really colors how I see things and approach every project. It gives me a distinct perspective that I try to bring to everything I share
