The Sindh Department of Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control has announced a significant update regarding vehicle number plates.

The department has issued directives to replace license plates for all commercial and private vehicles in the province.

This change is aimed at enhancing vehicle security and ensuring a uniform system of identification across Sindh.

New Number Plate Design

  1. Private Vehicles:
    • The new license plates for private vehicles will feature a white background adorned with the traditional Sindhi Ajrak design. This unique design reflects the cultural heritage of Sindh while ensuring uniformity.
  2. Commercial Vehicles:
    • Commercial vehicles will adopt yellow plates with the same Sindhi Ajrak design. The distinct color will help differentiate commercial vehicles from private ones at a glance.

Implementation Deadline

Vehicle owners must comply with this new regulation by April 3, 2025. After this date:

  • Private vehicles with yellow plates will no longer be permitted on the roads.
  • Commercial vehicles displaying black plates will also be deemed non-compliant.

Reasons for the Change

The decision to introduce new number plates stems from the need to:

  • Strengthen vehicle security measures, reducing the risk of fraud and misuse.
  • Standardize vehicle identification to facilitate better law enforcement and traffic management.
  • Promote the cultural identity of Sindh through the incorporation of the iconic Sindhi Ajrak design.

Action Required

All vehicle owners are urged to take immediate action and replace their license plates well before the deadline to avoid inconvenience.

The Sindh Excise Department has set up designated centers across the province to facilitate the issuance of new license plates. Owners can contact their nearest excise office for detailed procedures and requirements.

Penalties for Non-Compliance

Failure to comply with the new license plate regulations after April 3, 2025, may result in:

  • Heavy fines
  • Potential confiscation of the vehicle
