PEMRA Imposes New Ban on Use of Uniforms in TV Comedy Shows

The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has rolled out a significant new restriction on TV channels. In a recent notification, PEMRA announced that all satellite channels can no longer use uniforms of state institutions in their satirical and comedy programs.

This ban, effective from August 1, 2024, targets the uniforms of the police, Pakistan Armed Forces, and other security agencies.

PEMRA has already sent notices to TV channels, instructing them to stop using these uniforms in their shows immediately.

The authority aims to maintain the respect and dignity of state institutions and ensure that they are not depicted in a manner that could undermine their authority.

This new rule has stirred up discussions in the media industry. TV channels now face the challenge of complying with this regulation.

The enforcement of this rule is part of PEMRA’s broader efforts to regulate content and align it with national values and ethics.

As TV channels adapt to this change, the impact on comedy and satirical shows remains to be seen.

Farhan Abro

Hello! My name is Farhan Abro, and I'm based here in Islamabad. My journey in Pakistan's digital media really kicked off when I founded INCPak back in 2012. We built it from the ground up, driven by an entrepreneurial spirit, to be a trusted voice for independent journalism. But while media is a big part of who I am, I'm also shaped by a fascinating mix of other passions. I'm deeply into automotive, which gives me a technical edge, but I also find my artistic expression through landscape photography and music. And I'm always diving into the exciting world of Artificial Intelligence. Bringing all these different worlds together the technical, the creative, the journalistic, and the entrepreneurial—it really colors how I see things and approach every project. It gives me a distinct perspective that I try to bring to everything I share
