PM Breaks Ground on Hyderabad-Sukkur Motorway M6

Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday broke ground for the Hyderabad-Sukkur Motorway M6 during a ceremony in Sukkur. According to the details, the Motorway M6 (Hyderabad-Sukkur) is going to be a 306-km-long stretch of road that will cost Rs. 307 billion.

During this speech, the premier said that developing road infrastructure connecting all provinces, especially neglected areas, was crucial towards strengthening the national economy. Furthermore, he directed authorities to pursue more projects on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model across Pakistan.

Moreover, the Hyderabad-Sukkur Motorway M6 is last part of the Peshawar-Karachi route and completion of the this motorway will connect all major cities of Pakistan.

The project will have a total of 15 interchanges, including Hyderabad, Indus Highway (N-55), N5 Interchange, Matiari, Tando Allah Yaar, Hala, Benazirabad, Daur, Padidan, Bhirya Road, Mehrab Pur, Ranipur, Larkana-Khairpur, Pir Jo Goth, Babarloi.

The Prime Minister said that material used in the construction of the Hyderabad-Sukkur Motorway M6 would be similar to other motorway projects across Pakistan. “Through our joint efforts, we will achieve this quality and completion period.” he added.

The premier also stressed on the importance of a proper road connection to Balochistan. “Without the development of Balochistan, the development of Pakistan will remain incomplete.” he added.

  • Creation of more than 6,500 (direct) and 25,000 (indirect) jobs.
  • Completion of North-South Motorway Corridor (PKM).
  • Improved traffic safety and reduction in accidents.
  • Saving travel time between Hyderabad and Sukkur by 50%.
  • Increase in economic growth of Sindh and uplift of adjoining districts.
  • Cost to Government of Pakistan is Rs. 9.5 billion in form of VGF.
  • Reduction in traffic volume on GT Road (N5).
  • NHA revenue share of Rs. 407 billion during concession period.
