PTI’s Rauf Hassan Sent to Jail Court Denies Extended Remand

ISLAMABAD – The District Sessions Court Islamabad sent Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Rauf Hassan to jail on judicial remand, rejecting a request for extended physical custody.

Hassan and other accused individuals appeared before Judicial Magistrate Shabir Bhatti’s special court after their two-day physical remand concluded. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) prosecutor stated that technical reports indicated communication between all accused parties.

PTI lawyer Ali Zafar noted that Hassan’s seven-day physical remand had ended and requested a medical examination due to health concerns. The FIA prosecutor sought an additional five-day physical remand for Hassan.

The special court under the PICA Act denied the request for further physical remand and ordered all accused to be sent to jail on judicial remand.

Previously, the District and Sessions Court of Islamabad had granted a three-day extension to Hassan’s physical remand. He and other accused were brought to court after their initial two-day remand expired. At that time, the FIA investigation officer had requested further physical custody of Hassan and other suspects.

The court’s decision marks a shift in the handling of the case, moving from investigative custody to judicial oversight. This development may impact the ongoing proceedings and the defense strategy for Hassan and his co-accused.

We built it from the ground up, driven by an entrepreneurial spirit, to be a trusted voice for independent journalism. But while media is a big part of who I am, I'm also shaped by a fascinating mix of other passions. I'm deeply into automotive, which gives me a technical edge, but I also find my artistic expression through landscape photography and music. And I'm always diving into the exciting world of Artificial Intelligence. Bringing all these different worlds together the technical, the creative, the journalistic, and the entrepreneurial—it really colors how I see things and approach every project. It gives me a distinct perspective that I try to bring to everything I share
