Shabbar Zaidi may not continue as FBR chairman

News started circling the internet on Tuesday about the resignation of Shabbar Zaidi from his post of chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) although Mr. Zaidi has rejected those rumors according to a report by Geo News.

FBR chairman Shabbar Zaidi said:

I have not resigned from my post as chairman FBR. I have just not been able to perform my duties due to ill health,

For now, he is still the chairman of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and no decision has been finalized as to his replacement as he told the media:

Doctors have suggested me to take rest. I have already talked to Prime Minister Imran Khan that I won’t be able to continue working. Prime Minister can decide himself on my request,

The Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh said earlier this month on an interview of Aaj TV that the FBR chairman may be replaced by the federal government if he did not recover soon.

According to him, if he is unable to get back to work by the time the government has to introduce a new mini-budget, he would probably be replaced.

At this time, news about the resignation is not true and replacement of Shabbar Zaidi is still not confirmed.
