A major train accident occurred near Chak Jhamera, Jhang, when the Shalimar Express collided with a tractor-trailer loaded with bricks on Monday, 21 May 2025.
The incident happened at an unprotected railway crossing. Eyewitnesses say that minutes before the train arrived, the tractor-trailer got stuck on the tracks. When the driver realized the train was approaching, he disconnected the tractor from the trailer and fled the scene.
As a result, the train struck the abandoned trailer and derailed, coming off the tracks nearly one kilometer from the impact site. The train driver and assistant driver sustained injuries, along with several passengers.
Railway officials confirmed damage to the track between Sahianwala and Salarwal. Rail traffic between Faisalabad, Lahore, and Wazirabad has been completely halted until further notice due to the damage.
