Sindh Government bans plastic bags from Oct 1

KARACHI: Sindh Government issued notification of banning the plastic bags across the province. The ban will be effective from 1st October 2019.

Sindh Environment Department will enforce laws against the use of plastic bags and will take legal action against violators.

Environmental teams will examine different markets. Violators will be prosecuted.

The notification issued on 27th September states that Prohibition of Non-degragable plastic products (Manufacturing, Sales & Usage Rule 2014) and Section-14, Sub-rule-3 of Sindh Environmental Protection Act 2014.

Only Oxo-biodegradable plastic/shopping bags will be manufactured, sold/purchased and used.

Government of Sindh encourages the use of cloth bags/paper bags.

Similiar Initiative has been taken in the capital city of Islamabad.
