Former JI Chief Syed Munawar Hassan passes away in Karachi

KARACHI: Former Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Chief Syed Munawar Hassan has passed away on Friday at the age of 78 at a hospital in Karachi.

Hassan had been ill for some time and he was receiving treatment at a local hospital when he was shifted to an intensive care unit when his health deteriorated.

The former JI Chief was born in Delhi in 1941 but moved with his family to Lahore where he pursued for a good education getting a Master’s degree in Sociology in 1963 and in Islamic Studies in 1966.

He entered politics through the National Students Federation (NSF) and later joined the Jamiat-e-Talaba organization in 1960.

Syed Munawar Hassan was respected by everyone and JI leaders and workers arrived at the hospital after hearing news of his passing.

This news comes just days after Allama Talib Johri, a well respected Islamic scholar passed away in Karachi.
