Passenger trains suspended by Pakistan Railways amid COVID-19 spread

As the coronavirus has the entire world in its grip including Pakistan where the number of cases are rapidly rising, Pakistan Railways has suspended all passenger trains from midnight on 24 March 2020 till 31 March 2020.

A letter issued by the Director of Operations Umar Riaz states:

The Competent Authority is pleased to decide that all passenger train services / operations will remain suspended throughout Pakistan w.e.f 24:00 Hrs today (24 March 2020) till 24:00 Hrs of 31 March 2020,

Passenger trains have been suspended by Pakistan Railways to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

According to the letter, all those passengers with bookings of suspended trains will be accommodated in other trains once the suspended service is resumed.

The letter states:

Passengers who have advance booking on suspended trains will be accommodated in other trains of their choice on priority once the train service is resumed. In case of not availing the ticket they will get full refund after resumption of train operations,

So far there have been 903 coronavirus cases in Pakistan and the number is rapidly rising. Six people have lost their lives to this virus and government has placed a lockdown with people being ordered to stay home.
