Google has discreetly unveiled the Pixel 8a, the latest addition to its smartphone lineup, ahead of its annual I/O Developer conference. Serving as the successor to the Pixel 7a, this mid-range offering boasts significant upgrades.

The Pixel 8a sports a 6.1-inch OLED display with FHD+ resolution, featuring an enhanced 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 2,000 nits, protected by Gorilla Glass 3. Its design mirrors the premium Pixel 8 models, with rounded corners and a horizontal camera bridge, while also being IP67-certified dust and water-resistant and featuring an in-screen fingerprint scanner.

In terms of photography, the Pixel 8a impresses with a 64MP main camera with OIS support, accompanied by a 13MP ultra-wide-angle lens and a 13MP front-facing selfie snapper. It offers 4K video recording capabilities on both front and rear cameras, alongside various camera features such as a magic editor and ultra HDR.

Under the hood, the Pixel 8a houses a Tensor G3 chipset paired with 8GB of RAM, available in 128GB and 256GB storage options. Powering the device is a 4,492mAh battery that supports 18W wired and wireless charging. Running on Android 14 OS with 7 years of guaranteed updates, the phone also boasts AI features like Circle to Search and Pixel call assistance.

The Pixel 8a comes in Bay, Aloe, Obsidian, and Porcelain colors, with the base 128GB variant priced at $499 and the 256GB model at $559. Pre-orders have commenced, with sales set to begin on May 14.
