Google Play Developer Program Policy Update Focuses on Gambling Apps.

We’re writing to let you know about upcoming changes to our Developer Policy Center. We make updates from time to time as part of a continuous effort to make Google Play a positive experience so more developers around the world can build sustainable businesses.

After speaking with developers and thoughtfully analyzing how our policies and app review processes can help protect users and developers, we’re expanding our Real-Money Gambling, Games, and Contests policy. All changes will take effect on March 1, 2021.

Here’s the changes

  • We’re expanding the number of countries where developers can publish licensed real-money gambling apps to include: Australia, Belgium, Canada, Colombia, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Romania, Spain, Sweden, and the United States. (Existing permitted countries include Brazil, Ireland, France, and the United Kingdom.)
  • We’re introducing new requirements for gamified loyalty programs.
  • We’re also updating various portions of our Real-Money Gambling, Games, and Contests policy with additional examples to provide further clarification.

Thank you for continuing to partner with us to make Google Play a trustworthy platform for you and your users.

If you are a developer based in the EU and you offer goods or services to consumers located in the EU, you may also apply to resolve a dispute with Google Play through mediation. Find more details about the mediators we’re willing to engage with and instructions about how to request mediation here. Except as required by applicable law, mediation is voluntary and neither you nor Google are obliged to settle disputes through mediation.

Farhan Abro

Hello! My name is Farhan Abro, and I'm based here in Islamabad. My journey in Pakistan's digital media really kicked off when I founded INCPak back in 2012. We built it from the ground up, driven by an entrepreneurial spirit, to be a trusted voice for independent journalism. But while media is a big part of who I am, I'm also shaped by a fascinating mix of other passions. I'm deeply into automotive, which gives me a technical edge, but I also find my artistic expression through landscape photography and music. And I'm always diving into the exciting world of Artificial Intelligence. Bringing all these different worlds together the technical, the creative, the journalistic, and the entrepreneurial—it really colors how I see things and approach every project. It gives me a distinct perspective that I try to bring to everything I share
