OpenAI Rolls Out GPT-4.1 and GPT-4.1 Mini to ChatGPT Users

OpenAI rolls out GPT-4.1 and GPT-4.1 mini to ChatGPT, enhancing coding, instruction-following, and everyday AI performance.

OpenAI has officially launched its latest AI models, GPT-4.1 and GPT-4.1 mini, to ChatGPT users worldwide. The release follows the initial developer previews in April and aims to deliver improved performance, faster response times, and enhanced capabilities—especially in coding and instruction comprehension.

The GPT-4.1 model now powers ChatGPT for users subscribed to the Plus, Pro, and Team plans. Its core improvements target software developers, offering more accurate coding support, advanced logic handling, and smoother follow-up task management. According to OpenAI, GPT-4.1 is faster than previous iterations and presents a compelling alternative to the o3 and o4 mini models.

For developers, the introduction of GPT-4.1 means better performance in building applications, debugging code, and handling complex programming logic. This update is particularly beneficial for professionals relying on AI to streamline workflows and generate reliable outputs at scale.

Meanwhile, the GPT-4.1 mini model is being rolled out as the new default AI model for free ChatGPT users. It replaces the GPT-4o mini model and brings a significant upgrade in both processing and contextual understanding. Despite its smaller size, GPT-4.1 mini supports up to 1 million context tokens, making it ideal for managing long conversations, handling detailed instructions, and providing refined answers across a range of topics.

OpenAI also confirmed that the dropdown menu within ChatGPT now offers more model choices, allowing users to select based on their specific needs. From casual users handling daily queries to engineers building applications, the flexibility enhances overall user experience.

Access to GPT-4.1 requires a ChatGPT subscription. Pricing starts at $20 per month for the Plus plan and goes up to $200 per month, depending on the tier. The ChatGPT Team plan, priced at $25 per user per month, supports multi-user access for businesses and collaborative teams.

These new AI models signal OpenAI’s continued push to make ChatGPT more powerful, accessible, and useful for both casual and professional use cases.

Hello! My name is Farhan Abro, and I'm based here in Islamabad. My journey in Pakistan's digital media really kicked off when I founded INCPak back in 2012. We built it from the ground up, driven by an entrepreneurial spirit, to be a trusted voice for independent journalism. But while media is a big part of who I am, I'm also shaped by a fascinating mix of other passions. I'm deeply into automotive, which gives me a technical edge, but I also find my artistic expression through landscape photography and music. And I'm always diving into the exciting world of Artificial Intelligence. Bringing all these different worlds together the technical, the creative, the journalistic, and the entrepreneurial—it really colors how I see things and approach every project. It gives me a distinct perspective that I try to bring to everything I share
